This course will explore classic and contemporary literature while developing student writing skills for early high school. Literary analysis of story structure, theme, plot, and characterization will be emphasized, while developing and refining writing skills through persuasive and literary analysis essays, creative writing, and an in-depth research paper. Proper MLA format, grammar, and vocabulary will be taught and reviewed, helping prepare students for writing well in college. Through regular Socratic discussions in addition to dramatic reading, poetry memorization, and oral presentations, students will also sharpen their critical thinking skills and speaking ability.
