Investigate! Brainstorm! Problem solve! Students will be exploring engineering design theory through practical hands-on application. This course will allow students to learn and experiment through the various branches of engineering: including chemical, mechanical, civil, and materials engineering. Examples of projects include the ‘Marshmallow/Pasta Design Challenge’, ‘Gummy Bear Card Tower’, ‘Mouse Trap Car’ and as well as investigating common household designs and materials. Scientific principles and models to be incorporated throughout the course.
Weekly reading assignments and written samples to be completed at home. Will start written assignments at the end of class, if time permits. Homework from previous week to be collected at the beginning of each class period. Students performing at various levels are welcome and encouraged to join. Teacher to allow student accomodations at parents’ request.
Students are expected to be respectful of others and produce their best effort, while treating science materials carefully and safely. A classroom and laboratory safety agreement will be signed by parent and child. Parents will download curriculum provided by teacher.

Most recently, Mary Anne was a Learning Specialist working with struggling readers, but has enjoyed teaching children of all ages and abilities. Prior to her education career, Mary Anne worked as a Registered Nurse at City of Hope and has never lost her love of the sciences. Mary Anne has been married to Jeff for 25 years. Class Description: Explore the wonders of the Earth! Investigate the three basic types of rocks and a multitude of minerals. Examine samples and run tests to place minerals on Moh’s Hardness Scale. Learn about the dynamics and composition of the Earth including the layers within the earth and its outside surface. Students will also learn about the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere of the Earth. Examples of projects include the “Fudge Rocks’ and “Lemon Lime Starburst Sedimentation”.
Reading Assignments at home. Optional written assignments for home use, teacher will not be collecting homework. The written assignments are multiple choice quizzes to be taken open or closed book. These can be purchased and downloaded from the textbook company.
