Don’t take this class. It’s going to ruin the way you look at movies forever. You’ll learn how to watch a movie with a critical eye, deconstruct plots and characterizations, and understand the historical impact film has made on our society. Seriously, you’ll never be able to sit back, turn your brain off, and watch a movie again. This course will have an emphasis on critical thinking and the historical importance each of these films has, which honestly sounds like torture.
You’re going to have to watch movies. A lot of movies. And analyse them. There’s going to be so much watching, and writing, and more watching and writing. In fact, here is a partial list of the movies you’re going to have to watch (complete list coming):
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- City Lights
- Singin’ in the Rain
- It Happened One Night
- Double Indemnity
- Casablanca
- Some Like it Hot
- Cool Hand Luke
- The Princess Bride
- Ladyhawke
- Twelve Angry Men
- Jaws
- Spirited Away
- The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
- Forbidden Planet
- To Be or Not To Be (1942)
- The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
- Plan 9 From Outer Space
- Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
- What Ever Happened to Baby Jane
- The Wizard of Oz
Oh, no! Most of these films are old! Some of them are in black and white! Simply awful.
