Course Description: This class will be a combination of lecture, student activities, and in-house debates. Lectures will include topic analysis, argumentation and organizational strategies, logic, use of evidence and various debate strategies. Activities will consist primarily of rebuttal, delivery and cross-examination drills. Multiple formats of debate will be introduced; Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Parliamentary Debate, Congressional Debate and Policy Debate. Students who participate in academic debate will learn how to develop arguments, research, think critically, and develop a number of other academic skills. No prior debate experience is required.
